Test policy is College Scorecard field ADMCON7. Value 3 means not considered.

Guide

What test-blind means in this file

Test-blind on this page means ADMCON7 is 3. The college reports that it does not consider SAT or ACT scores. That is a stronger statement than test-optional, where scores are still considered if the student sends them.

The Scorecard can lag a policy change. Confirm the current rule with the college before you decide whether to send scores. This table sorts by state and only includes colleges that reported value 3.

Not considered

Value 3 means the reported policy leaves scores out of the review. Under that policy, sending a score does not put it into the file the admissions office says it will read. This page uses that reported answer and no other source.

The set is smaller than the test-optional set because fewer colleges choose this answer. A small list is not a ranking of the most reformed admissions offices. It is a count of one survey answer.

Optional is a different answer

A college that considers scores when they are sent is test-optional in this file, even if students often call that blind. The words in the press and the code in the Scorecard do not always match. This page follows the code.

A college that requires scores is on the test-required page. A college with a blank policy is on none of the three pages. Absence from this list is not evidence of a blind policy.

What the policy does not tell you

A blind policy does not tell you the admission rate, the price, or the academic program. Those are separate fields. Use the figures below for the shape of the set, and open a college for the campus-level record.

Program-level exceptions exist in real admissions offices. A music supplement, a home-school portfolio, or a transfer rule can differ from the undergraduate policy in ADMCON7. This page cannot see those exceptions.

Check the date on the policy

Colleges have moved from required, to optional, to blind, and sometimes back. The field is a snapshot. If a college announced a change after the Scorecard vintage, the row can be behind the announcement.

Do not use this list as advice to withhold scores everywhere. The list only identifies colleges that reported they will not consider them. A test-optional college is a different case.

Where the schools are

These schools sit in 54 states. The largest groups are New York (104), California (97), Pennsylvania (54), Puerto Rico (37), and Florida (35). The rest of the roll is spread across the other states in the table.

The full roll has 778 schools. The table shows 100 at a time. The page links under the table move through the rest. Page 1 is the canonical address.

Who runs them

By reported control, 483 are private nonprofit, 165 are public, and 130 are private for-profit. A blank control stays out of that split.

Predominant degree is the credential the campus awards most often. On this list it is a bachelor's degree at 491 schools, a certificate at 168 schools, an associate degree at 116 schools, and a graduate degree at 3 schools. A campus can still award other credentials.

How large they are

The largest undergraduate enrollments on this list are Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, New Hampshire, with 163,164 undergraduates, Arizona State University Campus Immersion in Tempe, Arizona, with 64,674 undergraduates, Arizona State University Digital Immersion in Scottsdale, Arizona, with 53,782 undergraduates, Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, with 50,012 undergraduates, and California State University-Fullerton in Fullerton, California, with 38,546 undergraduates. Enrollment is the undergraduate figure. It is not a ranking, and it leaves out graduate students.

12 schools are reported as online-only. The others are not marked that way in this file.

Admission

756 of 778 schools report an admission rate. The median of those rates is 81%. Schools with no reported rate stay out of the median. A missing rate is not an open door, and it is not a closed one.

The lowest reported admission rates on this list are Atlantic Acting School in New York, New York, at 2%, California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California, at 3%, and Minerva University in San Francisco, California, at 3%. A lower rate is harder entry. It is not a score for the school.

The highest reported admission rates on this list are Arizona College of Nursing-Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona, at 100%, Arizona College of Nursing-Tempe in Tempe, Arizona, at 100%, and Arizona College of Nursing-Tucson in Tucson, Arizona, at 100%.

What they charge

Among 120 public colleges that report an in-state sticker price, the median is $8,961. 45 other public colleges on the list do not report one. Among 541 private colleges that report a sticker price, the median is $21,870. 72 other private colleges on the list do not report one.

Sticker price is not net price. Grants, waivers, and a service commitment can move the bill by a wide margin. Open a school for the net-price figures.

Earnings and graduation

Among 623 schools that report earnings, the median of those school-level medians is $48,143. The clock starts at entry, not at graduation. The highest reported medians on this list are California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California, at $128,566, Gnomon in North Hollywood, California, at $114,785, and Helene Fuld College of Nursing in New York, New York, at $111,027.

Among 703 schools that report a graduation rate, the median rate is 55%. A blank rate is left out. It is not treated as zero.

Athletics in this file

53 report NCAA Division I athletics, 15 play FBS football, and 19 play FCS football. A blank athletics field means this file has no division for that campus. It does not prove the campus has no team.

Also on other lists

Some of these schools also meet the rule for another list on this site. The overlap is a second flag or a second classification. It is not a second ranking.

16 are also on R1 research universities. 27 are also on R2 research universities. 32 are also on liberal arts colleges. 22 are also on HBCU colleges. 127 are also on Hispanic-serving institutions. 7 are also on women's colleges. 38 are also on men's colleges.

How these figures work

Admission rate, enrollment, sticker price, earnings, and graduation rate all come from the College Scorecard. Earnings are the median 10 years after a student entered the school. Tuition for a public college is the in-state sticker price. Tuition for a private college is the published sticker price. None of these is net price after aid.

A blank field stays blank. This page does not turn a blank admission rate into an open door, a blank fee into a free application, or a blank earnings figure into zero. The table above is membership under the rule in this guide. Sort order is not a quality ranking.
