About CollegeBenchmark
CollegeBenchmark is 100% data-driven. Every ranking, every page and every number is computed straight from official government data — then handed to you with the tools to sort, filter and compare, so the conclusions are yours to draw.
The data is in your hands
Most college sites hand you a verdict — a single opaque score that buries how it was calculated. CollegeBenchmark does the opposite. We surface the raw, official figures and give you the controls to interrogate them yourself.
100% data-driven
Every number, ranking and page is computed straight from the source dataset. Nothing is hand-picked, hand-written, or editorially weighted — if it's on the site, a public figure put it there.
Rankings you can audit
Each ranking is a plain sort on one published metric — admission rate, median earnings, net price. No secret formula, no reputation surveys. You can see exactly why a school sits where it does.
Yours to slice
Filter by state, cost or selectivity, sort by any column, and reorder the numbers however your decision demands. The data bends to your question, not the other way around.
You draw the conclusion
We don't tell you which college is “best.” We put the same official figures every school reports to the government side by side, and let you decide what matters to you.
Where the data comes from
Admissions, cost, enrollment and outcomes figures come from the US Department of Education's College Scorecard — the same numbers colleges report to the federal government. Campus climate is from NOAA's 1991–2020 US Climate Normals, matched to the weather station nearest each campus, and coastline distances are computed from each campus's coordinates. The database is refreshed with each federal data release.
