Christian Colleges

785 colleges report a Christian religious affiliation. Catholic colleges are included. Jewish colleges, Latter-day Saints colleges, and Unitarian Universalist colleges are separate.

Affiliation comes from IPEDS. This list keeps every reported affiliation except Jewish, Latter Day Saints (Mormon), Unitarian Universalist, and the label Other.

Guide

Which affiliations count as Christian here

This page lists colleges with a reported religious affiliation, then removes four labels: Jewish, Latter Day Saints (Mormon), Unitarian Universalist, and the exact label Other. Roman Catholic colleges stay. So do Protestant denominations, Orthodox churches, Friends, Adventists, Interdenominational, Undenominational, and Other Protestant.

Other Protestant stays because it names a Protestant affiliation. The bare label Other does not, so it is removed. The fact column shows the IPEDS affiliation string, which is why two Christian colleges on this list can display different traditions. The table sorts by state.

A wide net, with four exclusions

IPEDS records dozens of affiliation labels. Building one page per label would hide the question readers actually ask. This page answers the wide question and leaves the specific traditions, Catholic, Jesuit, Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, and Jewish, on their own pages.

Greek Orthodox and Russian Orthodox stay, because they are Christian communions and they are not in the exclusion list. Interdenominational and Undenominational stay for the same reason. A college that reports one of those labels is not dropped for being unspecific.

Who the exclusions remove

Jewish colleges have their own page. Latter-day Saint colleges stay off this one because the label is excluded, not because this site is scoring traditions. Unitarian Universalist colleges are excluded on the same mechanical rule. A college that reports no affiliation at all stays off. A blank is not Christian by default.

The exact label Other is excluded because it does not name a body. Do not confuse it with Other Protestant, which remains. African Methodist Episcopal colleges stay on this wide page. They are not on the United Methodist page. That narrower page matches one label only.

Read the affiliation column

The fact column is the useful part of a list this wide. It tells you which reported tradition put the college here. Filter with your eyes by that column when you want Baptists only, or open the Baptist page and let the site filter.

Catholic colleges are included. If you wanted to exclude them, this is the wrong page. The Catholic page is the Roman Catholic label alone, and the Jesuit page is a still smaller roster.

Reported affiliation, not observed practice

A college can report a denomination and operate in a largely secular way. Another can be serious about faith and report no affiliation. This page cannot see that difference. It can see the label the college sent to IPEDS.

The list is long. Length is the consequence of the wide rule. It is not a claim that every campus on it is alike. Control, size, and price below show how unlike they are.

Where the schools are

These schools sit in 48 states. The largest groups are Texas (56), Pennsylvania (50), California (46), Ohio (42), and Illinois (36). The rest of the roll is spread across the other states in the table.

The full roll has 785 schools. The table shows 100 at a time. The page links under the table move through the rest. Page 1 is the canonical address.

Who runs them

Every school with a reported control is a private nonprofit college. Control is the Scorecard field. It is not a judgment about quality.

Predominant degree is the credential the campus awards most often. On this list it is a bachelor's degree at 646 schools, a graduate degree at 80 schools, an associate degree at 37 schools, and a certificate at 22 schools. A campus can still award other credentials.

How large they are

The largest undergraduate enrollments on this list are Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, with 50,012 undergraduates, Baylor University in Waco, Texas, with 14,785 undergraduates, DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, with 14,090 undergraduates, Loyola University Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, with 11,737 undergraduates, and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, with 11,026 undergraduates. Enrollment is the undergraduate figure. It is not a ranking, and it leaves out graduate students.

78 schools do not report an undergraduate enrollment. Those campuses stay off the size order. A blank is not zero.

14 schools are reported as online-only. The others are not marked that way in this file.

Admission

593 of 785 schools report an admission rate. The median of those rates is 76%. Schools with no reported rate stay out of the median. A missing rate is not an open door, and it is not a closed one.

The lowest reported admission rates on this list are Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, at 6%, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, at 11%, and University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana, at 11%. A lower rate is harder entry. It is not a score for the school.

The highest reported admission rates on this list are Providence Christian College in Pasadena, California, at 100%, Shasta Bible College and Graduate School in Redding, California, at 100%, and Pacific Islands University in Mangilao, Guam, at 100%.

What they charge

Among 685 private colleges that report a sticker price, the median is $32,665. 100 other private colleges on the list do not report one.

Sticker price is not net price. Grants, waivers, and a service commitment can move the bill by a wide margin. Open a school for the net-price figures.

Earnings and graduation

Among 648 schools that report earnings, the median of those school-level medians is $52,937. The clock starts at entry, not at graduation. The highest reported medians on this list are Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California, at $109,183, Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, at $103,937, and Georgetown University in Washington, District of Columbia, at $103,494.

Among 667 schools that report a graduation rate, the median rate is 55%. A blank rate is left out. It is not treated as zero.

Athletics in this file

74 report NCAA Division I athletics, 8 play FBS football, and 26 play FCS football. A blank athletics field means this file has no division for that campus. It does not prove the campus has no team.

Also on other lists

Some of these schools also meet the rule for another list on this site. The overlap is a second flag or a second classification. It is not a second ranking.

6 are also on R1 research universities. 21 are also on R2 research universities. 94 are also on liberal arts colleges. 43 are also on HBCU colleges. 97 are also on Hispanic-serving institutions. 12 are also on women's colleges. 10 are also on men's colleges.

How these figures work

Admission rate, enrollment, sticker price, earnings, and graduation rate all come from the College Scorecard. Earnings are the median 10 years after a student entered the school. Tuition for a public college is the in-state sticker price. Tuition for a private college is the published sticker price. None of these is net price after aid.

A blank field stays blank. This page does not turn a blank admission rate into an open door, a blank fee into a free application, or a blank earnings figure into zero. The table above is membership under the rule in this guide. Sort order is not a quality ranking.
