About Charleston, West Virginia
Charleston is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of West Virginia. Virginian militia officer William Morris built the first permanent settlement in the Kanawha Valley, named Fort Morris, in 1773. It was about 20 mi (32 km) upstream of modern Charleston, at the confluence of Kellys Creek, and was used extensively during the American Revolution. Charleston is home to numerous annual events and fairs that take place from the banks of the Kanawha River to the capitol grounds. (Wikipedia)
