About El Reno, Oklahoma
El Reno is a city in and the county seat of Canadian County, Oklahoma, United States. The land of Canadian County belonged to the historic Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes at the time of European encounter. In 1874, the United States established a fort to supervise the area and General Philip Sheridan took command. A legend says the fried onion burger was invented at the Hamburger Inn in El Reno in the 1920s so the owner could save money by using less meat in his five-cent burgers. Since 1988 El Reno holds an annual Fried Onion Burger Day Festival in downtown the first Saturday in May. (Wikipedia)
