About Elkhart, Indiana
Elkhart is a city in Elkhart County, Indiana, United States. In 1829, the Village of Pulaski was established, consisting of a post office, mill, and a few houses on the north side of the St. Joseph River. The town of Elkhart was first plotted with 48 lots on April 30, 1832. In 1884, the Bucklen Opera House opened its doors for the first time, with a seating capacity of 1200. It was common for one performance to take place every week. Elkhart's location on the railroad made it a good stopping point for shows traveling from New York to Chicago. (Wikipedia)
